1 Dead, 9 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man is dead and at least nine people have been wounded across the city since Friday afternoon.

A 29-year-old man is dead after a shooting early Sunday in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

Lionel Johnson, of the 4300 block of West Jackson Boulevard, was shot in the upper chest in a gas station parking lot a few minutes after 2 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of South Cicero Avenue, police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was rushed into surgery and pronounced dead at 5:02 a.m., authorities said.

The most recent shooting happened about 8:25 p.m. Sunday in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, police said.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the upper right arm in the 400 block of West 71st Street and taken to Provident Hospital of Cook County, police said. Information on the man's condition was not immediately available. Police said the man was not cooperating with the investigation.

About 7 p.m. Sunday, a man was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.

The 28-year-old man was shot in the leg and buttocks in the 0-100 block of West 105th Street, but his condition, as well as what hospital he was taken to, was not immediately known, police said.

Earlier Sunday, when a man was shot while driving in the Northwest Side Logan Square neighborhood, police said.

The man was driving in the 2100 block of West Fullerton Avenue under the Kennedy Expressway about 3 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain in his back, police said. The man, 27, continued driving to the 8900 block of Indiana Avenue, where he notified police.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in "stable" condition, police said.

Several hours earlier, a woman was shot in the back in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood.

The woman, 23, was standing outside in the 0 to 100 block of East 102nd Place about 12:30 a.m. when she heard gunfire and realized she had been shot, police said. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was listed in "stable" condition.

Saturday morning, a man was shot in the Austin neighborhood.

The 24-year-old man was shot in the right ankle about 5 a.m. while walking on the sidewalk in the 0 to 50 block of South Central Avenue, police said. He was taken in good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.

About 10 minutes earlier, a man in his 20s was shot in the 1200 block of North Harding Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.

He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in good condition, police said.

About 2 a.m., a 21-year-old man was shot several times in the leg while walking in the 300 block of North Central Avenue. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition, police said.

About 10:50 p.m. Friday, a 24-year-old man was shot while standing on the sidewalk in the 3300 block of North Whipple Street when somebody in a passing dark-colored SUV fired at him, police said.

He was shot in the right arm and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, police said.

A 26-year-old man was shot about 9 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of East 61st Street in the Woodlawn neighborhood, police said. He was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai with a gunshot wound to the buttocks, police said, adding that the man was uncooperative with police.

No one was in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigated.
