AURORA, Ill. (CBS) -- A high speed head-on crash has killed three and injured five in West Suburban Aurora.

Three Dead, Five Seriously Injured In Aurora Crash

Just south of Hazel on Broadway in Aurora, a Dodge Charger carrying just the driver smashed head-on into a Chrysler Town & Country minivan carrying seven family members from Montgomery.

"Two of the occupants died at the scene and one was transported to a local hospital and later perished," said Sgt. Kevin Convey.

A 28 year-old Aurora man who was the driver of the Charger was killed and two women in the minivan, aged 57 and 77, also died.

"There was a lot of smoke so you couldn't really see anything, but the accident looked bad," said Dania Mercado.

Sgt. Convey said the survivors couldn't do much to assist the first investigators on the scene.

"Nobody was able to talk on the scene based on the severity of the injuries," said Convey.

Sgt. Convey said that it appears the Charger moved into the other oncoming lane and that is why the collision occured.
