Dozens Of Students Arrested After Fight At Julian H.S.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- More than two dozen students were arrested late Tuesday morning at Percy Julian High School, after a large fight inside.
Chicago police responded to a "disturbance" at Julian High School, 10330 S. Elizabeth St., around 10 a.m.
In all, 29 students -- 26 boys and three girls -- were arrested.
Most of the students arrested have either been released from the station or transferred to a juvenile facility, but their ordeal is just beginning.
Ceasefire's Bob Jackson says many are now facing charges of mob action.
"Hopefully when they get to court and find out some of them were just in the wrong place at the wrong time," said Jackson.
Jackson says the bigger brawl did involve two rival gangs. Police and CPS officials say no weapons were used and no one was seriously injured. But the possible consequences are as serious as it gets.
Jackson said some of the students he talked to were "sorrowful."
"For some of them this is the first time they have actually been locked up and detained," he said.
Students were seen being taken out of the school, their hands bound with plastic zip-cuffs, as they were led to waiting police vehicles.
Student Jovon Fluker was there when the first punch was thrown in the school's second-floor hallway.
"I saw one guy, his nose was bleeding," he said. "It was a whole bunch of people, a whole bunch of guys fighting."
Students said the hall was consumed by three fights at the same time, both boys and girls.
"Kicking, punching, slamming, they all really didn't care what they were doing," said Quincy Newman.
Some parents took their children out of class early.
"I don't know what's gonna go on after they let the kids out after school," said parent Kory Doss. "I'm not taking chances."
Police can't say if all 29 arrested were charged with mob action. CPS officials say extra security will be at Julian High School throughout the week to ensure a safe environment.
