Rep. Lipinski Calls For Investigation Into Quarry Blast

Lipinski was sitting at his kitchen table Monday and says it shook violently for five seconds.

"I was definitely startled and had no idea what it could be and went outside and some of my neighbors had come outside also," said Lipinski.

Lipinski says he has never felt a blast the Hanson Materials Quarry in his Western Springs home.

Chris McCloud of the Illinois Natural Resources Department says there are two distinct and very different tremors, the second more than six times stronger. He says the second does not appear to be an explosion.

Lipinski has asked federal, labor, mine safety and firearms investigators to figure out what happened and to make sure it won't happen again.
