Minooka Woman Dies After Hammond Crash

HAMMOND, Ind.(CBS) -- A woman from Minooka is dead following a crash in Hammond, Ind.

According to Hammond Police, a 23-year-old Hammond, Ind. man driving a GEO Tracker was southbound in the 3500 block of Sheffield around 2:15 a.m. Sunday when he crossed into the northbound lane, striking a Dodge Intrepid with four women inside.

A passenger in the Dodge was thrown from the vehicle and died. Two passengers were taken to Christ Hospital in Illinois with life-threatening injuries; the Dodge's driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger who died has been identified as Jill Rasco of Minooka.

The 23-year-old Hammond man who crossed into the wrong lane received non-life-threatening injuries and also was taken to Christ Hospital.

Police believe alcohol was a factor, but they are still investigating.
