Two Charged With South Side Burglaries

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two Englewood men have been charged with burglarizing several South Side homes after they were caught trying to rob an occupied home, authorities said.

Kenneth Jones, 23, faces seven counts of residential burglary and one count of attempted residential burglary, police said. Alfred Pettis, also 23, faces five counts of residential burglary and one count of attempted residential burglary.

Both were charged late Tuesday night after they were identified as the suspects in several South Side home burglaries, police said.

The robberies started Nov. 6 and ended Monday, when they were allegedly caught trying to rob a house while someone was home, according to the state's attorney's office.

After one of the burglaries, a victim came home and found her refrigerator was left open and Pettis had allegedly made himself a sandwich, according to prosecutors.

Jones, of the 7100 block of South Normal Avenue, was ordered held on $250,000 bond Wednesday by Judge Laura Sullivan. Pettis, of the 7200 block of South Yale Avenue, was ordered held on $200,000 bond Wednesday by Judge Sullivan.

Both are next scheduled to appear in court Dec. 2.
