Woman Stopped Before Tossing Molotov Cocktail At Family Member

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A South Side woman from the Woodlawn area tried to throw a Molotov cocktail at a relative's sister's minivan Saturday but was thwarted by another relative, Chicago Police said.

Colette Rudolph, 34, of the 6100 block of South Langley Ave., has been charged with attempted arson and possession of an explosive or incendiary device.

Cook County Judge James Brown ordered her held in lieu of $25,000 bail Sunday, and prosecutors alleged in court records Rudolph was caught with two bottles filled with accelerants and wicks.

Police said she tried to throw one glass bottle filled with a liquid smelling like gas at a silver 2006 Chevrolet van parked with people inside in the 6200 block of South Langley Ave. — near the suspect's home. There was also a red cloth rag in the bottle.

One of her intended targets was a relative, according a police report. But police said another relative saw what was unfolding and knocked the bottle out of her hand before she could throw it.
