LOMBARD, Ill. (CBS) -- A group from the village of Lombard is heading southwest tomorrow morning - with loads of tools and supplies to help the people of Washington, Illinois, rebuild after the tornado, reports WBBM's Steve Miller.

"The response - it's been pretty overwhelming," said Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Howell.

For the past couple of weeks the village of Lombard has been collecting supplies for tornado victims in Washington.

"I would say enough to fill a small garage," Howell said.

Tomorrow morning Howell and others head to Washington to deliver the supplies - and the help - that people have donated.

"We were pretty blown away by not only the physical donations but the people who have just shown up with gas cards and cards for restaurants and grocery stores," he said.

Howell said many of those people are senior citizens.

"These are people who are just making a point to make a gesture to someone they might not ever meet in their life," he said.
