CHICAGO (STMW) – A 68-year-old man was shot to death during an attempted robbery in the Logan Square neighborhood early Thursday.
Cayetano Sandoval, 68, was found in the 1900 block of North Spaulding Avenue about 1:50 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Witnesses in a nearby bar told police two suspects tried to rob Sandoval. One of the robbers knocked him to the ground, and the other shot him multiple times while he was lying on the ground.
Both suspects ran off after the shooting, police said.
Sandoval, of the 1600 block of West Ontario Street, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Police said he had been shot as many as five times.
No one was is in custody Thursday morning as Area North detectives investigate.
