Part Of Chicago School Was Without Heat For Two Days, Parent Complains

(CBS) – A Chicago father says his son and daughter's school did not have heat for two days – worse, school officials did not alert him.

CBS 2's Chris Martinez reports.

"It was just cold," 10-year-old Sean Stallings, a fourth-grader says of conditions inside Beasley Elementary School's north end for the past two days.

Dad Alonzo Stallings found out about the lack of heat not from teachers or a note sent home – but from his five-year-old daughter.

"This is ridiculous, this is absurd," he says.

He went to the school Thursday and talked with a teacher, who confirmed there was a lack of heat for two days straight.

He pulled both kids from the school and took them home.

"I don't want to risk my daughter or my son getting sick," Stallings said.

Beasley's website says they've since fixed the problem. That message says 10 classrooms were effected, and they called the fix "a simple repair" that restored heat to all classrooms.

The school promises calls or letters if it ever happens again.

"They're going to have to do better," Sean's mother, Dashaun, says.
