Man Killed In South Side Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed in a crash in the Gage Park neighborhood on the South Side early Saturday.

Just before 2 a.m., Tashon Krzysiek, 19, was sitting in the passenger seat of vehicle travelling south on Western Avenue near 50th Street when the vehicle struck a tree, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, he was found unresponsive, police said.

Krzysiek, of the 3100 block of West Madison Street, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into police custody, but no charges have been filed, police said.

It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol factored in the crash.

Area Central detectives were investigating.
