Two Injured In New City Drive-By Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man and a woman were shot in the South Side New City neighborhood Sunday morning.

The 23-year-old woman and the man, 36, were driving eastbound near the 4700 block of South Throop Avenue about 6:01 a.m. when an unknown offender in another vehicle drove up and fired shots, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

After the two were struck, their car crashed at the corner of 47th and South Throop Avenue, Estrada said.

The woman was shot in the hand and was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, where she was listed in good condition, Estrada said.

The man was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County with a gunshot wound to the back and is in serious condition, police said.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
