Police Injure Bensenville Man In Shootout

BENSENVILLE, Ill. (STMW) -- Police shot a man multiple times in northwest suburban Bensenville after he allegedly violated an order of protection Friday evening.

Two Bensenville police officers responded to a report around 6 p.m. saying a 24-year-old man had violated an order of protection in the 700 block of North Illinois Route 83, according to a release from Bensenville Police Department. When the officers arrived, they saw the man run westbound.

When police caught up with the man in the 1000 block of North Illinois Route 83, he pointed a handgun at one of the officers and misfired, the release said. The man fled again before an officer caught up and exchanged gunfire with him, striking the man multiple times.

The 24-year-old was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where his condition was not known Saturday morning. Neither police officer was injured, the release said.

The DuPage County Major Crime Task Force is investigating the incident, and charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation.
