Christmas Eve Fire Leaves 16 People Displaced

CHICAGO (STMW) -- An early morning fire on Christmas Eve in the Gresham neighborhood has left 16 people displaced, including three children.

Fire officials responded to the blaze about 3 a.m. in one unit of a five-story apartment building in the 1800 block of West 79th Street, according to Fire Media Affairs.

Crews extinguished the fire by 3:25 a.m., Fire Media said.

No one was hurt in the fire, officials said. The Red Cross provided food and clothing for two people from the home.

The cause of the fire was unknown early Tuesday.
