Northbrook Woman Charged With Battering Infant

MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. (STMW) -- A north suburban woman has been charged with battering an infant who was in her care.

An infant suffered head injuries while in the care of 19-year-old Tamara L. Nelson, according to a release from Mount Prospect police.

The infant's mother discovered the injuries Sunday and brought the baby to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, police said. The baby has been treated and released from the hospital.

Nelson was charged with one count of aggravated battery to a child and ordered held on $20,000 bail by Judge Cerone-Marise, police said.

The state Department of Child and Family Services was also notified and has begun an investigation, police said.

Nelson, of the 2300 block of White Oak Drive in Northbrook, is next scheduled to appear in court Jan. 17.
