Suspect In Deadly Crash, Carjackings Remains In Wisconsin

(STMW) -- Rockie Douglas, the suspect in a series of carjackings including one that led to the death of an 11-year-old South Side boy, may not come to Illinois anytime soon.

Douglas was captured in Milwaukee on Christmas Eve going through a McDonald's drive-thru, the Sun-Times reports.

That's apparently where fled when local and federal authorities sought him for a myriad of crimes — including the carjackings, robbery, theft, burglary and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle — throughout the Chicago area and surrounding counties.

Now Douglas is in the Milwaukee County Jail and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections needs to determine what it will do.

Douglas, 34, is serving a seven year probation sentence for burglary in that state, said Joy Staab, a spokeswoman for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He's violated that probation for absconding and being a fugitive from justice, she said.

Now Wisconsin correction authorities will investigate the violations and decide whether to start "revocation proceedings" regarding his probation.

"If he is revoked, he will have to have to appear before his original sentencing judge in Wisconsin for sentencing after revocation," Staab said. "He will remain in Wisconsin until that is complete. After that, he could be extradited to Illinois for additional charges."

Chicago Police said Douglas began a series of carjackings in the city on Dec. 20. The next day, as he fled police, Douglas crashed the first of three hijacked cars into a SUV occupied by members of the Turnage family. Donovan Turnage, 11, was killed.
