CHICAGO (STMW) — A South Side man was ordered held on $400,000 bond Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting and robbing a woman he accosted after she had gotten off the Red Line train stop near 63rd Street, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.
Devonte Willis had been walking in the opposite direction of the 24-year-old woman early Monday morning but told police he decided to follow her because she looked like a “good person to rob,” Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Kingsley Sawyers said.
The partially masked Willis, 20, pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim give him everything she had, Sawyers said.
When the woman told him she didn’t have anything, Willis allegedly told her he didn’t believe her and said he’d have to take a walk with her.
Willis then took off the woman’s coat and shirt and started touching her breasts, Sawyers said.
Willis asked the crying woman what she’d be willing to do to save her life.
“Whatever you want me to,” the woman replied, according to a police report.
Willis then took the woman to a vacant lot and forced her to perform a sex act on him twice while pointing a gun at her head, authorities said.
Willis ended up taking the woman’s ID, $13 and her cellphone from her purse, Sawyers said. Before fleeing, Willis told the woman not to tell police what he did because he knew where she lived, prosecutors said. Willis also allegedly told the victim to stay in place for a half an hour or else she’d get hurt.
The woman later called 911 and gave police a detailed description of her attacker.
Willis, of the 6200 block of Martin Luther King Drive, was arrested just four hours later, Sawyers said.
He allegedly had the woman’s blue cellphone case with him and when police went to his apartment, they found the mask they believe he used in the crime.
Willis, who was currently on probation for aggravated robbery, allegedly admitted to sexually assaulting and robbing the woman, Sawyers said.
