Up To Eight Inches Of Snow Possible For New Year
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A winter weather advisory has been issued for Chicago as forecasters expect up to eight inches of snow in some areas for New Year's Day.
The advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Snow started falling Tuesday afternoon and is expected to continue into New Year's Day.
A total of four to eight inches is possible.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties.
Drivers should be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility.
Temperatures are expected to be in the high teens on Tuesday and rise into the mid 20s on Wednesday.
Then on Wednesday night into Thursday morning some areas along the lakefront in Chicago and Northwest Indiana could see additional lake effect snow. An additional six inches is possible in isolated areas, but the exact path of that snow is not yet known.
