Gibson's Provides Free New Year's Lunch For Hundreds Of Needy People

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Gibson's restaurant welcomed about 450 people for New Year's Day lunch - all of them in the needy population served by Catholic Charities.

Waiters at Gibson's worked without pay to wait on the homeless, the jobless and the elderly.

Gibson's Provides Free New Year's Lunch For Hundreds Of Needy People

Gibson's Managing Partner John Colletti says about 60 servers and chefs donated their time - and Gibson's donated the food.

"Lot of times you forget about those who are really needy. And you look at this group today and all these smiling faces. It's really worthwhile getting up early, working last night."

22-year-old Gregory Smith was there with his wife, 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son.

All clients of Catholic Charities.

"They gave us a place to stay and food on the table and a roof over our heads. That's good right there."

This is the sixth year Gibson's and Catholic Charities have teamed up for the New Year's Day lunch.
