Naperville Man Sentenced In Child Porn Case

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (STMW) -- A man from Naperville's far south side has been sentenced to jail and ordered to pay $14,000 in fines and legal costs, after being convicted of having pornographic images of children in his home.

Mitchell J. Brady, 50, lives on the 1300 block of Windemere Avenue, in Naperville's Brook Crossing neighborhood. He was arrested last winter on five felony charges of aggravated child pornography possession, a Class X felony that carries a mandatory sentence of six to 30 years in prison upon conviction.

Brady instead pleaded guilty on Aug. 30 to a single, amended count of child pornography possession, a Class 2 felony. The dismissal of the more serious charges and Brady's plea followed an agreement between his attorney and prosecutors from the Will County state's attorney's office, according to records on file in Will County Circuit Court in Joliet.

A spokeswoman for State's Attorney James Glasgow confirmed Judge Carla J. Alessio-Policandriotes accepted Brady's plea and sentenced him to 44 days in Will County Jail. Brady was jailed following his arrest, and has already completed that term and been released, the spokeswoman said.

Alessio-Policandriotes on Monday also placed Brady on four years of probation and ordered him to pay a total of $14,000 in fines and court costs, the spokeswoman said.

Brady was arrested Jan. 31 following a two-month-long investigation by members of the Naperville Police Department's High Tech Crimes Unit and Special Operations Group.

Police Cmdr. Lou Cammiso in February said detectives used a warrant to search Brady's house. They arrested him after finding "videos and images of children under the age of 13 engaged in sexual conduct," Cammiso said.

Police did not reveal how many films and images Brady had in his possession, or whether they were being stored in a computer or had been downloaded.

An examination of court documents showed Brady had no prior criminal record in Will, DuPage and Kane counties.
