1 Dead, 7 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and at least seven other people have been injured in shootings across Chicago since Saturday.

Marquise Harris was fatally shot late Saturday by his friend's girlfriend after the couple argued at a gathering in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood.

Harris was in a second-floor apartment in the 6200 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue about 11:20 p.m. when he began arguing with his girlfriend, authorities said.

A male friend of Harris' girlfriend intervened and the two males began fighting, police said. The male friend left the gathering, returned a short time later and allegedly shot the teen in the chest, police added.

Harris, who lived on the same block where he was shot, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 12:05 a.m. on Sunday, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

The most recent non-fatal shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. Monday when a woman was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood.

The 22-year-old woman was walking in the 12700 block of South Morgan Street when she "heard shots and felt pain" and was struck in the upper right thigh, police said. She was taken in good condition to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island.

Late Sunday, A 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the 7100 block of South Damen Avenue, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

About 4:30 a.m. Sunday, a 23-year-old man told police he was shot in the 3000 block of South Keeler Avenue. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back. He was listed in serious condition.

About 7:25 p.m. Saturday night, a 36-year-old man was walking in the 3500 block of West Huron Street when a group of people approached him, police said.

The man got into a physical struggle with one of the suspects, who drew a handgun that went off, striking the 36-year-old in the leg, police said. After being shot, the man fled to the 600 block of North Drake Avenue, where he notified police. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Earlier Saturday, two men were shot inside a house in Englewood.

They were inside a house in the 6600 block of South Lowe about 9:15 p.m. when they heard a knock on the door, stepped onto the front porch and were shot by three people, police said. One of the men, 18, was shot in the ankle and taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center. The other man, 27, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County with a gunshot wound to the ankle, police said. Both were in good condition.

About 3 a.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle in the 1300 block of West Division Street when someone approached and shot him, police said. The man drove himself to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where police said he was listed in good condition.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
