Bachman was posing for a photo when she fell at least 30 feet. Although Good Samaritans at the scene tried to administer first aid, Bachman had suffered fatal injuries in the fall, CBS 8 in San Diego reports.

“There were two nurses here who hustled down the cliff that began CPR and first-aid as well as a couple of surfers. They did their best, it just wasn’t meant to be,” San Diego Police Lt. Paul Phillips tells the station.

Bachman, originally from California, was working on her master’s degree in urban planning in Chicago, UIC officials said.
