Chicago Burger Makes Time Magazine's 'Most Influential Burgers of All Time' List

CHICAGO (CBS) -- There was a time when burgers were judged solely by taste. Well, according to Time magazine, you can now judge them by influence.

In a recent list titled "The 17 Most Influential Burgers of All Time," Time asked "burger historians and experts" to figure out what burgers have made the biggest impact on not only the food world, but the world as a whole.

No, Time doesn't clarify what constitutes a burger expert, but the fact remains, this list is full of unique burgers that have broken barriers through culture, controversy or a number of other ways.

Chicago has made a list with a burger that, in true Chicago fashion, caused quite a bit of a stir.

The burger in question is Kuma's Corner's Ghost Burger, which came in at number 16 on Time's list.

Calling the Ghost Burger "one of the most outrageous burgers to date," Time explains the heart of the Kuma's controversy: the burger was topped with an unconsecrated communion wafer.

For those of you who remember, the Ghost Burger angered more than a few Chicago Catholics, most notably the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago. They were so insulted by Kuma's stunt that they even passed on a $1,500 donation Kuma's tried to give them.

The Ghost Burger is in good company on Time's list, which also includes the Quadruple Bypass Burger, the White Castle Slider and the Krusty Burger.

See the whole list and vote on which burgers you think are and are not influential on Time's website.
