(CBS) The Cubs have reached an agreement with free-agent right-handed pitcher Jason Hammel, pending a physical, according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
It was a one-year, $6-million deal, CBSSports.com reported.
Hammel went 7-8 with a 4.97 ERA and and 1.46 WHIP in 139 1/3 innings for the Orioles last season. He started 23 of the 26 games he appeared in. It’s likely that he’ll slot in somewhere at the back of the Cubs’ rotation, behind the top three of Jeff Samardzija, Travis Wood and Edwin Jackson.
