Teenage Boy Fatally Shot In Woodlawn Neighborhood

CHICAGO (CBS) — A 14-year-old boy was shot in the head and died, in a drive-by attack in the south side Woodlawn neighborhood.

Police are withholding identification of the victim pending notification of his family.

Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said the victim was walking with two friends on the 6100 block of South Vernon Avenue, at about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, when someone fired on them from a white van.

The other two teens escaped injury.

Alfaro said police believe the attack to be gang-related.

Area South police detectives are investigating.
