2 Dead, 7 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were killed and at least seven other people were wounded in shootings on the city's South and West sides since Friday afternoon.
The most recent fatal shooting occurred shortly after 7:40 p.m. Saturday when a 32-year-old man was shot while sitting in a car in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
Michael Redmond was sitting in a car in the 200 block of North Latrobe Avenue when another car pulled alongside it and an occupant shot him multiple times, authorities said.
Redmond drove away after he was shot and crashed into several parked cars in the 5500 block of West Washington Street, where he was found wounded, authorities said. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where he was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Officers found a handgun inside the car he was driving, police said.
Saturday morning, a 28-year-old man died after he was shot multiple times in the McKinley Park neighborhood on the South Side.
Javan Boyd was driving in the 3700 block of South Princeton Avenue about 4 a.m. when the shooter approached from the vehicle's passenger side and fired into the vehicle, hitting him in the back and legs, authorities said.
Boyd, of the 7400 block of South Chappel Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
Seven others have been wounded in shootings on the South and West sides since Friday afternoon.
The most recent non-fatal shooting happened about 5:20 p.m. Sunday in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.
An 18-year-old man was standing outside in the 8200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when at least one person fired shots, striking him in the arm and chest, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
About 10:55 p.m. Saturday, three teens were shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The teens were walking in a group in the 1900 block of South Central Park Avenue, when a male walked up and began firing, striking the three teenage boys, police said.
A 17-year-old boy was shot in the groin, another 17-year-old boy was shot in the right hand and an 18-year-old was shot in the inner thigh, police said.
All three were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were listed in "stable" condition, police said.
Less than two hours earlier, a man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The 23-year-old man was walking in the 7900 block of South Artesian Avenue about 9:15 p.m. when a dark-colored car pulled up alongside him, police said. He started to run away, heard shots and later felt pain in his leg, police said. He was taken in "stable" condition to Holy Cross Hospital.
About 11:40 a.m. Saturday, a 24-year-old man—who police said is a known gang member—was shot and critically wounded on the Lower West Side.
The man walked into Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and was listed in critical condition, police said. The shooting may have occurred in the 2000 block of West 21st Place. Police said the man is a known gang member.
The weekend's first shooting occurred Friday afternoon, when a 15-year-old girl was shot in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side.
She was shot about 3:20 p.m. in the 4200 block of South Michigan Avenue, police said. Police believe the shooting may have been domestic in nature. The girl was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital in good condition, police said.
No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
