(CBS) The Jets are interested in signing Bears quarterback and pending free agent Josh McCown, the New York Daily News has reported.
The Jets want a quality backup to push second-year starter Geno Smith, who struggled for long stretches as a rookie. New York believes McCown could be that guy after he posted a 109.0 passer rating with 13 touchdowns and one interception in five starts last season for the injured Jay Cutler.
Free agency opens March 11, and the Bears have expressed interest in re-signing McCown, who has also said he’d like to remain in Chicago. He’s expected to draw interest from a handful of teams on the open market.
