What Do Words Of Bears Brass Really Mean?

(CBS) From Charles Tillman's pending free agency to the possibility of Julius Peppers becoming a salary cap casualty to how well Shea McClellin's move to linebacker will work out, there's a plethora of uncertainty surrounding the Bears.

Last week at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Bears general manager Phil Emery and coach Marc Trestman gathered in front of the media to answer these burning questions. Well, kind of. As the Bears continue to consider their options, Emery and Trestman can only say so much -- which means in some cases, not much at all.

So what did we learn from some of their answers? Hub Arkush of HubArkush.com and Shaw Media helped break it down in this piece of reading between the lines.

On Tillman's future after Emery said, "Certainly Charles knows we want him back and we'll just work through it. It's a step-by-step process," Arkush writes:

Based on what we learned from the Brian Urlacher divorce, that means the Bears love Charles too, and he'll be back on their terms and in their time frame or not at all.

On Peppers' future after Trestman said, "He is under contract. We're all coming off an 8-8 season. We have a lot to improve upon and that is where our heads are at," Arkush writes:

The Bears can't pay him $18 million to show up every third or fourth week.
