74-Year-Old Geneva Club Changes Name To Draw More Members

(CBS) — An organization in Geneva that’s almost three-quarters of a century old has changed its name, reports WBBM’s Steve Miller.

“It’s a really sensitive issue, but we’re being very careful of saying, ‘You know what, we aren’t trying to make something new,'” said Nikki Spitzer is president of the Geneva Women’s Club. “We’re still the same group. We’ve just evolved with the times.”

Now the Geneva Women’s Club. But before last month, it was called the Mothers Club of Geneva.

“There’s a lot of people who have said, you know, we just didn’t even think about joining that because it says ‘mothers,’ and we’re not a mother.”

Spitzer says membership had started to suffer.

“I would say it has been less and less over the last few years.”

But she says the Geneva Women’s Club has gotten a lot of members over the last few months, and she expects more now with the name change.
