CHICAGO (STMW) – A man was critically injured in a shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood Thursday afternoon, police said.

The 24-yeard-old was shot in the chest about 4:20 p.m. in the 900 bock of South Springfield Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said, citing preliminary conditions.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and has since died, O’Brien said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality Thursday night.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
