Another Fallout From 'Chiberia': Wendella Boat Launch Delayed

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The relentless cold this winter has claimed another victim--at least temporarily.

The Wendella boat cruises were scheduled to start this Friday.

However, the vessels remain in storage due to the ice and cold.

The boats are housed in Dolton on the Calumet River during the winter months and can't get up to their Chicago River docks near Michigan Avenue due to the frozen water.

They need four 40 degree days in a row without freezing temperatures to ensure there isn't ice on the river.

Wendella officials are hoping to open on March 28, but it could be delayed until April 4th.

Chicago has endured a record 26 days at or below zero this season.
