Wrong-Way Driver Crashes Into Semi On Skyway

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A wrong-way driver collided with a semi early Thursday on the Chicago Skyway, spilling diesel fuel and closing all southbound lanes for more than an hour on the South Side.

A female driving in a black Infinity was northbound in the southbound lanes of the Skyway when her vehicle collided with the semi about 1:30 a.m. near 76th Street, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The truck spilled diesel fuel, causing a HazMat situation that temporarily closed all southbound lanes, Greer said. The expressway was reopened about 2:55 a.m.

The woman was taken with non-life-threatening injuries to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where she was listed in "stable" condition, Greer said.

The driver of the semi also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and he was listed in "stable" condition at Trinity Hospital, Greer said.

The woman — whose name and age were not immediately available — is expected to be charged with DUI and faces numerous traffic citations, police said.
