(CBS) If a couple influential Indiana University boosters get their way, embattled Knicks coach Mike Woodson would be a leading candidate to replace Tom Crean as coach of the Hoosiers, according to a New York Daily News report.
As the Knicks have stumbled their way to a 26-40 season, Woodson has come under fire and isn’t expected to return as coach next year. As the Hoosiers bumbled their way to a pedestrian 17-15 campaign, Crean did little to impress the Indiana fan base a season after his top-seeded team faltered in the Sweet 16.
Now, several boosters want him out at Indiana, according to the Daily News, and they want Woodson back at his alma mater.
The Daily News reported its source “claims that several prominent IU boosters are pushing to buy out Crean and install Woodson, a product of Indianapolis, as the coach.”
