Man Shot At By Police In South Shore Facing Charges
CHICAGO (STMW) --A 19-year-old man who was shot at by police after he pointed his gun at officers Saturday night is facing charges.
Junior Adziwonou, 19, was charged with one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon with a loaded gun, three felony counts of aggravated assault of an officer with a firearm and one misdemeanor count of having a firearm without a valid FOID card, according to a release from Chicago Police.
Officers responded to a call of a person with a gun in the 7700 block of South Luella Avenue about 10:15 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Police saw Adziwonou with a handgun and told him to drop the weapon, but he refused and ran off, the release said. He then pointed his gun at officers who were chasing him, and they fired at him in response, police said.
Authorities initially said a bullet grazed the man, but early Sunday said he was not shot. The man suffered "some other kind of injury" during the arrest, police said at the time.
He was arrested shortly after, police said.
According to Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden, police saw three males walking down the street and stopped two of them, but the third took off running,
The man ran into an alley and a squad car followed him. He then pulled a gun out of his waistband and pointed the weapon at officers, Camden said.
One of the officers fired at him as he continued to run. He then turned around and pointed the gun at officers again, when another officer fired, Camden said.
Adziwonou, of the 8900 block of South Normal Avenue, will appear in bond court Sunday.
