(CBS) — Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has lit into BP for the oil leak into Lake Michigan, where cleanup efforts continue.
Emanuel expressed extreme unhappiness that Indiana state decisions can affect the quality of Chicago’s drinking water.
“When BP was starting to build their plant, I ran a campaign that said we have got to make sure that our environment is protected before that plant went in. I expect a full accounting of the damage that was done, how much and what actions the company will take to make sure that it doesn’t happen again,” said Emanuel.
Emanuel called Lake Michigan, the Midwest’s Grand Canyon and the Midwest’s Yosemite and repeated twice more so reporters and BP heard that he wants a full explanation of why the oil in Lake Michigan water and how BP will guarantee it doesn’t happen again.
