Man Critically Wounded, Arrested In Bronzeville Shootout

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police have arrested a man who was critically wounded in a shootout in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old man was behind the wheel of a vehicle in the 3500 block of South Rhodes Avenue about 10:08 p.m. when an unknown shooter approached on foot and shot him in the chest, police said.

The man returned fire and tried to drive away before crashing into a nearby parked vehicle, police said.

A gun was recovered from inside the vehicle he was driving, and the man was arrested, police said.

He was listed in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. Charges against him were pending Wednesday morning.

No one is in custody for shooting the man as Area Central detectives investigate.
