ACM Awards Ceremony to Include Band Perry Performance, Merle Haggard Tribute

The Band Perry will officially kick off the 2014 Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony, the Academy announced today. Taking place April 6 at 8pm ET on CBS, the live broadcast of the ceremony will kick off with The Band Perry performing their current single "Chainsaw."

The press release announcing this describes the trio's "Chainsaw" performance as "explosive" and "action packed," so set your expectations accordingly.

Last year the honors went to Blake Shelton and friends, who opened the 2013 ACM Awards with a memorable version of Shelton's hit "Boys 'Round Here."

Further details on the 2014 show revealed today include news of that Miranda Lambert and George Strait will perform a tribute to Merle Haggard. The country legend is this year's recipient of the ACM's Crystal Milestone Award. The award will be presented to Haggard by Garth Brooks.

In addition, Hunter Hayes will perform his new single “Invisible,” and Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line will perform their collaboration “This Is How We Roll.” The latter performances takes place as part of the ACM Fan Jam at the nearby Mandalay Bay Events Center.
