Car Crashes Into NW Indiana Apartment

SCHERERVILLE, Ind. (STMW) -- No one was hurt when a car crashed into the living room of a Northwest Indiana apartment Saturday morning.

Firefighters found a car "completely inside" a basement apartment unit at a complex in the 960 block of East Joliet Street in Schererville, Ind., about 5 a.m., Fire Department Assistant Chief Dave Meyer told reporters at the scene.

A mother and her 7-year-old daughter were sleeping in a bedroom about 10 feet away from the living room where the car came to rest, Meyer said.

No one was injured, including the driver and passenger in the car, he said.

The mother and her daughter were displaced by the crash, but the structure of the rest of the 12-unit apartment building remained intact, Meyer said.

It was not clear if charges or citations were pending against the driver as Schererville police could not immediately be reached for comment Sunday morning.
