Teen Girl On Bicycle Hit By Car In Crystal Lake

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (STMW) -- A teenage bicyclist had to be airlifted to a northwest suburban hospital after she was hit by a car in Crystal Lake Wednesday evening.

The 17-year-old girl was riding a bicycle southbound on Westport Ridge at its intersection with Ackman Road when she was struck by a 2006 Lexus driven by a 20-year-old Lakewood woman about 5:50 p.m., according to a statement from Crystal Lake police Cmdr. Dan Dzewior.

The girl was ejected to the pavement from her bike, which was run over by the car, Dzewior said.

Her injuries were not considered life-threatening, but she was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in a Flight for Life helicopter "due to the manner of the collision," police said.

The woman driving the Lexus was not injured, and an initial investigation found the motorist had the right-of-way, police said.

Traffic was diverted on Ackman Road between Crimson Drive and Golfcourse Road for about two and a half hours as crews cleared the scene.

No citations had been issued as of Wednesday evening as Crystal Lake police investigate.
