Police: Driver Dead After Hitting A Parked Truck On I-90

GILBERTS, Ill. (STMW) -- A man died Saturday morning after his vehicle struck a pickup truck on Interstate 90 in northwest suburban Gilberts Saturday morning, police said.

A witness told police the 66-year-old driver was heading east on I-90 about 9:40 a.m. when the vehicle began to swerve, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Ed Petrik said.

The vehicle then cut off two others before hitting a pickup truck parked in a construction zone near Tyrell Road, Petrik said.

The witness saw the crash, pulled over and started to administer CPR to the driver, who was unresponsive, Petrik said.

Paramedics arrived shortly after and took Guy Cooper—who was the only person injured—to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he was pronounced dead at 10:25 a.m., Petrik said.

Petrik could not comment on a possible cause for the crash.

The Kane County Coroner's office could not be reached to confirm the death Sunday afternoon.
