Two Charged In East Garfield Park Drive-By That Wounded Teen, Man
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men have been charged with attempted murder after a drive-by shooting that wounded a teenage boy and a man Friday night in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
Jalen Searcy, 18, and Willie Powell, 21, were arrested just minutes after the shooting that happened about 10:15 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Walnut Street, police announced Sunday.
A 17-year-old boy and 22-year-old man were sitting in an SUV in the 3400 block of West Walnut Street when Searcy and Powell pulled up in another vehicle and fired shots into the SUV, police said.
The teen suffered a graze wound to his shoulder, and was treated and later released from Mount Sinai Hospital. The man was shot in the buttocks, and he remains in good condition at Mount Sinai, police said.
Officers nabbed Searcy and Powell soon after the shooting in the 3400 block of West Maypole Avenue, about two and a half blocks away, according to police.
Powell, of the 1600 block of South Union Avenue in Bolingbrook, and Searcy, of the 1700 block of North Melvina Avenue, each face two counts of first-degree attempted murder.
Searcy also was cited for driving without a seatbelt, a license or proof of insurance, as well as improper passing and disobeying a red light, police said.
They were scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.
