(CBS) USA Basketball announced Wednesday that its men’s national team will play an exhibition game against Brazil at the United Center on August 16.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is an assistant to head coach Mike Krzyzewski for Team USA, and point guard Derrick Rose is among the pool of 28 players trying to make the FIBA World Cup team. Rose is out for the remainder of the NBA season as he recovers from a torn right medial meniscus, but he’s set Team USA’s mini-camp as a goal for his return to fully competitive action.

Team USA will spend three days in the Chicago area on its training tour, which also includes stops in Las Vegas, New York and Gran Canaria.

“Our training sessions and our exhibition games are vital in our preparations for defending our gold medal at the2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup,” said Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball chairman and national team managing director. “We have again scheduled a challenging lineup of exhibition opponents for our USA men’s national team. We’re excited to give USA fans and basketball fans in general the opportunity to see their USA national team play in Las Vegas, Chicago, New York and Gran Canaria.”

The FIBA World Cup of Basketball begins Aug. 30 in Spain.
