Mother Of Teen Rape Victim Wants Justice

(CBS) -- A 52-year-old man entrusted with keeping an eye on a 14-year-old girl instead sexually assaulted her.

Her mother wants justice and is sharing her story with CBS 2.

Meet Pondexter Howard, an alleged babysitter-turned-child-sex-predator. He was supposed to be babysitting the 14-year-old daughter of a woman he knew -- but allegedly raped her instead.

"What was going through his head? Who does this to a child?" the mother tells CBS 2's Pamela Jones.

She asked that her identity not be disclosed to protect her daughter.

She says she allowed Pondexter to watch her daughter at his home in the 9500 block of Winston in Chicago.

One day in December, prosecutors say the girl thought she'd be doing homework. That's when she reportedly ended up in Pondexter's bedroom.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services says it happens more than you might think. They say some 90 percent of child sex assault victims know their attacker.

Community activist Andrew Holmes is helping the family heal in their search for justice.

Howard is being held on $500,000 bond. His next listed court date is in two weeks.
