Chicago's Ultimate Frisbee Team Begins Season Sunday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It's Opening Day Sunday for a Chicago team that many people have not seen play, but whose sport is growing in popularity.

The Chicago Wildfire is opening up its second season play in the American Ultimate Disc League by facing the Minnesota Windchill at Lane Tech Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The sport is officially called "Ultimate" and it is a cross between football and Frisbee and has elements of soccer and hockey as well. It is a fast-paced, exciting sport played by more than 5 million people in the U.S. alone and an estimated 30,000 in the Chicago area.

Last year the Wildfire posted a 14-3 record en route to the Midwest Conference Championship. The AUDL was founded in 2012 with 8 teams and will field 17 teams in this, its 3rd season.

Tickets are available for Sunday's game at chicago-wildfire.com/tickets or at the gate.
