Report: Bears Hosted DT Louis Nix For Pre-Draft Visit

(CBS) With the NFL Draft approaching in on May 8, the Bears hosted Notre Dame defensive tackle Louis Nix for a pre-draft visit recently, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported.

The visit was one of 30 that NFL teams are allowed and another sign that Chicago is still seriously looking to bolster and make younger a defensive line that's already seen the offseason additions of Lamarr Houston, Jared Allen, Willie Young and Israel Idonije. Nix is rated as the third-best defensive tackle prospect by CBSSports.com, and many mock drafts project him as a mid-to-late first-rounder, meaning he should be available for the Bears at No. 14.

Of course, Chicago still desperately needs help at safety as well, and there could well be better value elsewhere at No. 14.

"He's a prototypical nose tackle," NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock told the Tribune. "(But) can he push the edge a little bit? Can he gain an edge and push the pocket? If you believe in that, then he's probably a top-20 pick because he's a 330-pound nose tackle with some movement skills."
