ROSELLE, Ill. (STMW) – A bicyclist was fatally struck by a minivan Tuesday morning in west suburban Roselle.

The 2004 Mercedes Benz minivan was eastbound on Rosemont Avenue and struck the bicyclist while turning left onto Roselle Road at 6:09 a.m., Roselle police Sgt. John Lawson said.

The cyclist, 47-year-old Efrain Diaz-Torres of Roselle, was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center, where he died of his injuies, Lawson said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the fatality, but did not release further information.

“At this time it appears alcohol and or drugs did not play a part in this tragic crash,” Lawson said.

The driver of the minivan, a 63-year-old Roselle man, has not been cited or charged, and the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash should call Officer David Cotton at (630) 671-4076 or dcotton@roselle.il.us, or email crimetips@roselle.il.us.
