Report: Pacers’ Vogel ‘Coaching For His Job’

(CBS) After his Indiana Pacers went on a late-season slide during a year of big expectations, Frank Vogel is “coaching for his job,” according to an report.

The Pacers secured the Eastern Conference’s top seed after a 56-win regular season, but they were a mess down the stretch and finished the season 16-15 in their final 31 games. Indiana is currently tied 1-1 in its first-round playoff series with eighth-seeded Atlanta. reported that “coming back to win the series against the Hawks would not automatically ensure Vogel’s safety.”

The decision on whether to retain Vogel at season’s end ultimately rests with Pacers president Larry Bird, sources said, but frustration throughout the organization has been mounting thanks to a nosedive that began in February with a loss in Orlando just before the All-Star break and has show few signs of abating.

Team sources on Wednesday confirmed a Yahoo! Sports report that Lance Stephenson and Pacers newcomer Turner got into a practice-floor fight on the eve of Game 1 against Atlanta. But sources told that it’s not even the first time in recent weeks that Stephenson has clashed with a teammate.
