Abreu Named AL Player Of The Month, Rookie Of The Month

(CBS) White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has been named the American League Player of the Month and the AL Rookie of the Month, MLB announced today.

The 27-year-old Abreu hit .270 with eight doubles, a triple, 10 homers, 32 RBIs and 20 runs in March/April. He led the majors in homers, RBIs and total bases in that span and ranked fifth in slugging percentage.

Abreu also set major league rookie records for homers, RBIs, extra-base hits and total bases through April.

Abreu is the second player in history to be named a player of the month in his first month in the majors. Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was the first when he accomplished in it June 2013.
