Big Delay On Interstate 55 After Truck Fire In Romeoville

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- Firefighters have extinguished a truck fire in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 in Romeoville, but two lanes are still closed, and traffic is backed up for miles behind the burned-out truck.

A semi-tractor trailer truck caught fire around 6:40 a.m. on Interstate 55 near Weber Road, in Romeoville. It was not immediately clear how the fire started.

Passersby took photos of the truck, which was fully engulfed in flames, creating a large cloud of dark smoke.

Police shut down all southbound lanes of the interstate as firefighters rushed to the scene and worked to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was out by about 7:30 a.m., and all lanes reopened by 8 a.m., but delays remained in both directions near the scene of the fire.
