4 Dead, 18 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four people were killed — including a 15-year-old boy — and at least 18 others have been wounded in shootings across the city between Friday night and Sunday night.

The 15-year-old was killed Sunday afternoon in a West Pullman neighborhood shooting on the Far South Side.

Vaughn Holeman was shot in the chest and under the arm about 3:40 p.m. in the 200 block of West 116th Street, less than a mile from his home in the 400 block of West 115th Street, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m., authorities said.

About 1:35 p.m. Saturday, a 25-year-old man was shot to death in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Xavier Tripp was walking on the sidewalk in the 4100 block of West Adams Street when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and an unknown number of people got out, authorities said. Shots were fired by at least one person in the group, striking him multiple times before they got back in the car and sped off, authorities said.

Tripp, of the 1500 block of North Long Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he died at 2:15 p.m., a spokesman for the medical examiner's office said.

Earlier Saturday, a 34-year-old man was found shot to death less than a block from his home in the Little Village neighborhood.

Cesar Nieves, 35, was found dead in the 4100 block of West 28th Street at 3:24 a.m., authorities said. Nieves lived in the 2800 block of South Kedvale Avenue, less than a block from where he was found, a spokesman for the medical examiner's office said.

About 7:50 p.m. Friday in the Morgan Park neighborhood, Summer Moore, 37, heard gunfire while sitting in a front yard in the 11400 block of South Aberdeen Street, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. She began to run but was struck in the chest, police said.

Moore, of the 3100 block of West Marquette Road, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened at 7:34 p.m. Sunday. A 16-year-old boy and 28-year-old man were shot in the 1400 block of South Keeler Avenue, police said. The man was shot in the face and chest and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition. The boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the buttocks.

At least 16 other people were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night. No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.

Additionally, Gary Smith, 37, was shot by police about 2:30 a.m. in the 5400 block of West Madison Street after he allegedly pointed a gun towards officers responding to a disturbance. He was taken in critical condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he later died, authorities said. The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating along with Area Central detectives.
